Jackie's Diary
Genlux Magazine, LA's cool
new fashion and beauty luxury magazine launched in
Beverly Hills and it was a steamy affair. The Beverly
Hills Mercedes-Benz showroom was crammed with
over 850 people plus a fashion runway plus (fortunately
for us) lots of cool drinks. With so many people the
temp rose to about 85 degrees in there. And fortunately
for us, a few hundred guests never got into the party
because the parking lots were filled by 7:30 and the
place was filled by 8. Guaro's top pourer,
Rob, poured his own version of a Genlux
Martini designed by Kim Hassourd of Liquid
Architecture. Kim is famous in Beverly Hills for
her drink concoctions and this one was so yummy! Recipe
for the Genlux Cocktail: Guaro plus lemonade
plus a tablespoon of strawberry puree mmmmmm. Plus
for once, a magazine party served some really good
red and white wine and this one was poured by lovely
Kimberly Stalwick of Rex Goliath.
Cecilia Moreno, the beautiful
publisher of Genlux, swept through the party
in her Genlux outfit, handing out comp copies
of her gorgeous new mag! It's filled with the latest
fashion, shoes, handbags, cosmetics and where to buy
it! Watch out Lucky. It also has lots of beautiful
fashion photos by three of LA's best photogs: Robert
Ferrone and Brett Williams and Ming
Shuin Wu. We ran into Jennifer Disotell, Editor
in Chief of Genlux, looking like a genluxer in her
Tracy Reese outfit.
Randy Dunbar and Chris
Kulow from Crustacean (one of our all-time
favorite restaurants) were there. I saw all of their
wonderful appetizers being gobbled up before they
had a chance to make it our way!
Eric Buterbaugh the florist
to the A-list celebs and all the corporate head honchos
was the party's host. The same Eric Buterbaugh
that fulfilled Creative Director Stephen Kamifuji's
vision of the phenomenol cover dress made completely
of flowers worn by LA Model's Deima (the flawless
new model from Lithuania). Anastasia, the ultra-famous
brow queen, was the other host. I looked for both
but the place was sooo crowded we never saw each other.
Oh and of course, the main man, host Steve Smythe,
was buzzing about and we did catch each other's eyes.
Steve is the head of Beverly Hills Mercedes-Benz
and the sponsor of the entire Genlux celebration!
I ran into our friend David Bushell
the producer of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless
Mind and his other movies, Slingblade and the
Banger Sisters. Elizabeth Banks was there
too. But the highlight of the night was the fashion
show by Macy Gray. Her new line titled Natalie
Hinds by Macy Gray is luxury style squared. Beautiful
silouttes in rich textural fabrics. Twelve lovely
angels from PhotoGenics model agency floated
down the runway almost melting under the hot lights!
I stood next to the Italian beauty Adria Piaggi
from Pianegonda and the cool Korosh Soltani
from David Orgell.
The gift bags were the best! There was a Genlux
T-shirt and an Oilily Scarf and a Luli
Candle and Tom, Dick and Jane chocolate truffles
and Smashbox Lip Gloss and haircare and skincare
and lots of gift certificates.
Party Two:
On Wednesday night I helped Elizabeth Saab
with her exclusive Marilyn Monroe auction
preview party over at Mason G restaurant.
Steve Smythe from Mercedes-Benz of Beverly
Hills helped me get a couple of Maybachs
to pick up Paris Hilton and her new fiance
Paris. Also one to pick up her sweet Mom, Kathy
Hilton and her dad. Lindsay Lohan made
it to the party looking like Marilyn herself rolling
in her chauffer driven Escalade. Remember she just
wrecked her Mercedes when some paparazzi rammed it.
The only "Debbie Downer" about the night
was when we were setting up the logo board for the
red carpet area and this rude little woman started
barking about what logos should go where. I think
she was the publicist for the restaurant but I'm not
sure. It was a small intimate group of about 75 including
Entertaiment Tonight and E! Channel
and all the other press. The press was all out because
it was the first night for Paris Hilton and
her fiance Paris to be out on the town. Talk
about an outrageous gift bag. Let me write down all
of the stuff in it and let you know later. I also
have to tell you about our friend Liz's role on that
new Tommy Hilfiger reality show!
